St Mary's Church

Walton on the Wolds

History

St Mary’s was built in 1739 on the site of the earlier St Bartholomew. It is a simple brick structure consisting of west tower, nave, chancel and vestry. The chancel was restored in 1856 and the rest of the building in 1877 so that it now has the internal appearance and feel of a Victorian church.

"Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work."

(2 Corinthians 9 vs 7-8)

We are all called to be Shaped by God in living out our faith and embracing our calling to build God’s Kingdom here on earth. Our giving is therefore first and foremost not a matter of practicality, but part of our everyday faith and discipleship – our journey of following Jesus.

As we experience God’s generous nature the results can be seen in our own lives. Our generosity drives mission in communities large and small in our diocese. It brings the message of the Good News of Jesus Christ to the lost, and it brings food and warm clothing to those who have nothing. We are shaped by God to give what we have and transform lives: ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these my brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me!’

Matthew 25: 40.

Regular Giving

The easiest way to give regularly to our churches is through the Parish Giving Scheme. The Parish Giving Scheme is a free tool to facilitate regular giving in your local church, to maintain current mission and ministry and to enable new ways of sharing the love of God. The Parish Giving Scheme enables our churches to have sustained, regular funding, whilst significantly reducing the administration time for treasurers and Gift Aid secretaries as Gift Aid is automatically claimed from HMRC.

If you would like to know more please speak to your local church treasure, or one of the Churchwardens.

You can also give regularly by Standing Order or through Gift Aid Envelopes, again if you would like to know more please speak to your local church treasure, or one of the Churchwardens.

Legacy Giving

Much as we don’t like to think about what will happen to our estate after we pass away, it is an inevitable part of life. Many people think about making a specific gift or giving part of their estate in their will. You may like to leave a gift to support the ministry and mission of your local church long after your own lifetime, benefitting generations to come. If you would like to discuss this, please speak to one of the clergy or churchwardens.
